Scott Beierle posted a series of first-person videos on his YouTube account in 2014, calling women "whores" and threatening violence against women who sexually rejected him, as Buzzfeed News first reported. In the video, Beierle also ranted against interracial relationships, saying women who participate in them have betrayed "their blood".
"All evidence points to a single actor who has stayed on scene and is deceased at this time so there is no additional threat to the public", DeLeo said.
Maura Binkley was majoring in global studies and was close to completing her college education, friends said. Her father told the newspaper she was hoping to get a job with Teach for America.
Jeff Binkley said that police told him the killing of his daughter was a random act.
Police said two other victims were in stable condition, and three had been released from the hospital. Binkley was a student, while Van Vessem was a faculty member at the school's College of Medicine and a specialist in internal medicine.
FSU said her research was focused on restructuring healthcare for people with multiple chronic diseases.
Police identified those killed at Hot Yoga Tallahassee as 61-year-old Nancy Van Vessem and Maura Binkley, 21.
Image: Scott Paul Beierle, 40, has been identified as the gunman by police. Investigators were trying to figure out "what made him come to our community and commit this heinous act".
Police Chief Michael DeLeo said that people who fought back against the gunman was "a testament to their courage". Beierle was a graduate of nearby Florida State University but he was living in a city in central Florida. On Saturday, police searched Beierle's home in Deltona and his electronic devices for clues.
The 2012 incident happened in a dining hall on Florida State's campus.
Court records obtained by the Tallahassee Democrat reveal the gunman was charged with battery in 2016 for slapping and grabbing a woman's bottom at an apartment complex pool.
But details about 40-year-old Scott Paul Beierle began to emerge in the hours after, including that he had once been banned from FSU's campus and had been arrested twice for grabbing women even though the charges were ultimately dropped. A FSU police report shows that Beierle told police he may have accidentally bumped into someone, but denied grabbing anyone.
The two slain were a student and faculty member at Florida State, according to university officials.
The Tallahassee Democrat reported that a man who was in a nearby bar said people entered the establishment seeking assistance and said that a man was inside the yoga studio, called "Hot Yoga", and was acting odd before he opened fire during a class.
The suspect fatally shot himself, Mr DeLeo said.
"There are no words to express the shock and grief we feel", John Thrasher, the president of Florida State University, said on Twitter on Saturday.
