Amazon's announcement comes as its retail competitors, perhaps having read research indicating that consumers put a high premium on receiving invoices that don't include a price for shipping, have made their own bids for end-of-year business by taking that off the table.

Of course, if you want more benefits, like free videos, music streaming, books, and guaranteed shipping speeds, you may want to try out a free 30-day trial of Amazon Prime.

"Amazon's move to give free shipping for all this holiday supports [the] thesis that retailers are catching up on Amazon with supply chain speed, fulfillment and delivery", Konik wrote.

This offer applies to hundreds of millions of items, and it'll work on orders that will arrive in time for Christmas.

· Free Shipping This Holiday: All Amazon customers can shop hundreds of millions of items including every product category with free shipping, and now for a limited time, there is no minimum purchase amount on orders delivered through the holiday season. Shoppers who aren't Prime members will get slower shipping, which can take five to eight days.

The e-commerce giant is offering free shipping to all customers this holiday, starting November 5.

Two-Day Shipping on 100 Million Items: Free Two-Day Shipping is available to all Prime members in the USA on more than 100 million items with no minimum purchase amount all year.

Amazon isn't the only merchant slashing shipping fees. Also mentioned was the previous free-delivery threshold on orders larger than $25.

Amazon is hoping increase sales after the company's revenue projection for the rest of the year fell below some estimates.
