Journey sharing is rolling out for driving, walking, and cycling navigation on Android and iOS for those of you in "mixed" households.
Once you have entered your destination and you're on your way, you can head into the Menu by hitting the ^ arrow - from there, you'll see an option to "Share trip progress". "Today, Google Maps is improving journey sharing on Android and bringing it to iOS, making it easier to share your ETA with loved ones so you can keep your hands off your phone and your eyes on the road". It lets you send ETAs to friends and family based on satellite data - not empty promises. This will enable you to share your live location with a user from your contacts.
"To get it to work, you just need to hit the "^" icon, then select "Share trip progress". But today's update actually makes it possible to share that information outside of the Google Maps app. "Once your journey ends, you'll automatically stop sharing your location", Google's product manager Samuel Mclean notes on the company's blog. The update also includes support for sharing across 3rd-party apps like Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, and more. You can also stop sharing manually as well.
