The 2018 season has just gone from bad to worse for Giants' offensive lineman Ereck Flowers.

"We appreciate Ereck Flowers' efforts with the team".

General view of MetLife Stadium prior to the start of the preseason game between the New York Giants and the New York Jets on August 27, 2016 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The Giants attempted to move him to right tackle this season, but it didn't work.

The Giants had hoped to find a trade partner, but that was always unlikely because they would have been responsible for the $1.69 million he was owed the rest of the season.

The team officially waived Flowers on Tuesday, less than 24 hours after deciding to cut ties with their 2015 ninth overall pick.

According to ESPN.com, the Giants have finally made a decision to give up on Flowers, with the team planning to cut or release him by 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday. He had a confrontation with former offensive line coach Pat Flaherty during his rookie season and was an outcast for most of his time in the offensive line room. "Sometimes a change of scenery is good". He pushed a reporter after a loss during the 2016 season. Flowers consistently struggled to protect Eli Manning's blind side.

With an open spot on their practice squad as the result of this shuffle, the Giants also announced that kicker Marshall Koehn, who was with the team during the preseason, had been signed as insurance for Aldrick Rosas, who missed practice on Monday with a sore quadriceps. "The first run and the first couple times I tackled him, I said; 'this kid has something.' ..."

Chad Wheeler has since replaced Flowers in the starting lineup.
