Manchester United's Paul Pogba

The subject of Pogba's reportedly fraught relationship with United boss Jose Mourinho was strictly off the table for the interview at France's global training base.

"For me, a leader isn't someone who wears something on his arm, who puts on the captain's armband".

There's talk of Pogba's compatriot Zinedine Zidane replacing Mourinho in the Old Trafford hotseat, but it appears the Portuguese has got a stay of execution with United's comeback win over Newcastle United on the weekend.

Louis Saha believes Paul Pogba intentionally set out to destabilise Jose Mourinho by publicly criticising the Manchester United manager.

Paul Pogba says becoming captain of France is not one of his ambitions, saying he can be a leader on the pitch without an armband. It puts pressure on the manager.

"I can't pick out one of them".

The report added that it would not be the 29-year-old's last time to play behind a striker.

'As a leader you can talk on the pitch but I've seen leaders who didn't necessarily talk'. "That allows me to relay messages and have the chance to be heard", he said.

Pogba insists he is the ideal go-between for the older players and younger members of Didier Deschamps' squad. This is my opinion and I would have said that to him.

Prior to the World Cup, Pogba had stated his ambition of stepping up his role within the France squad, and he was credited by teammates with having given a number of inspirational dressing room speeches during Les Bleus' summer triumph. "Whether it be "Grizou" [Antoine Griezmann], Kylian [Mbappe] or Raph [Varane], they deserve it a lot more than me".
