A delegation of opposition MNAs met National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser at his residence on Saturday and submitted a requisition request for an NA session on PML-N President and leader of the opposition Shehbaz Sharif's arrest.

Sharif was arrested on charges of misusing authority and corruption in the housing scheme during his tenure as the chief minister of Punjab province from 2013 to 2018. The NAB said that the younger brother of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will be presented before the accountability court on Saturday.

Hundreds of activists from Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz gathered outside the court, chanting pro-Sharif slogans as police and army Rangers guarded the venue.

Pakistan's opposition leader Shehbaz Sharif has been arrested for alleged corruption in the latest scandal to hit the Sharif political dynasty.

"Shahbaz Sharif on Friday appeared before an investigation team of the National Accountability Bureau Lahore", bureau spokesperson Nawazish Ali Asim told PTI. Mid-day accepts no responsibility or liability for its dependability, trustworthiness, reliability and data of the text. PML-N leaders Marriyum Aurangzeb, Khurram Dastgir and Saira Afzal Tarrar were, however, not allowed to enter the premises.

Sharif is opposition leader in the lower house of parliament.

Chaudhry said while the government was willing to assist NAB in administrative matters, the bureau was an independent institution which was not under the government.

The Bureau quizzed Sharif regarding a tender awarded to a private consultancy company for a survey of the Saaf Pani company.

Shehbaz Sharif, who is facing several other cases, rejected the allegation saying he had cancelled the said contract because it was granted to a blacklisted company.

The arrest of Shehbaz Sharif for alleged involvement in Ashiana Housing Scheme scam is made according to law of the country, he added.

He claimed that the national exchequer had not suffered the loss of "even a single penny" in the case in which Shahbaz was arrested today.
