"You need to respect all the opinions but of course we are a club that our decision was not to sign, (even though) it is the fashion to sign or because we are the only club in Europe that has not signed players".
Despite no new arrivals for the first season at their brand new stadium, Pochettino feels they can still go on to do great things this term.
After a takeover in the summer, Steve Bruce is now in a position where he can bring players into Villa Park, as he looks to build his squad to the level which can challenge for promotion back to the Premier League. I think the club is doing an incredible effort to try to finish the stadium as soon as possible, and the lodge is finished at the training ground.
The Argentine added: "We have a very good squad, we have very good players and it is not easy to add players that improve that".
"Building a stadium that is almost £1bn". And if they don't play then I don't want them to give up and start to say: 'The gaffer is a bad guy.' It's not a drama - drama is another thing. If all the players today are thinking about a collective target, we can be competitive.
But Pochettino believes all three are at risk of losing focus and has urged them to forget about their futures and contribute to Tottenham's season instead. "That is the key this season".
