Rose, who previously starred in Orange Is the New Black, will then transition into her own Batwoman series, which is now in development for the 2019-2020 television season.

'Kate Kane soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city's criminal resurgence, ' said a brief for the show.

The standalone series is being developed by Caroline Dries in tandem with producer Greg Berlanti who oversees most of the DC Comics television programs for Warner Bros.

In the comics, Kane's sexuality gets her kicked out of military school, and she's fully immersed in the party scene when she meets Batman. While the Batwoman series hasn't officially been given the green light just yet, this bodes very well for that happening in the near future.

"Ruby Rose is Batwoman, coming to The CW's crossover event this December!"

She has also appeared in XXX: The Return of Xander Cage, Resident Evil: Final Chapter, John Wick: Chapter Two, and Pitch Perfect 3.

Batwoman, whose real name is Kate Kane, was first introduced in 1956 as a love interest for Batman.

The CW also confirmed that the character will be a lesbian - meaning that if the show is picked up, she will be the first gay character to lead a live-action superhero TV show.

Most recently, Batwoman has been one of the stars of the relaunched Detective Comics by James Tynion IV and finally has her own solo series again.

Batwoman is coming to TV and she'll be played by an Australian. I mean if I was writing one of those casting blogs that were all the rage ten years ago she'd pretty much be my top selection. Though, honestly, I don't know where Doc Wertham could've gotten the idea that a single bachelor and his practically-adult ward-spending their nights traipsing around in tights and carousing with flamboyant men wearing more makeup than the Gabor sisters-were anything more than friends.
