The tax-free weekend was something many people looked forward to, with sales tax as well as local taxes being exempt from many back to school items.
Tax Free Weekend ends Sunday night at 11:59, however many stores will be closing before then.
Qualifying items in Arkansas include: school and art supplies, clothing and shoes under $100, certain clothing accessories or equipment under $50, and reference books or textbooks.
Does the "sales tax holiday" apply to sales made by mail order, Internet or similar retailers? "It definitely helps with traffic and sales, having the tax free, everybody likes that savings", explained Pinson.

According to the CEO of the Ohio Council of Retail Merchants, retailers will be seeing an increase of 5 to 9% in sales this weekend. Mississippi's was last weekend, while Arkansas' is schedule Saturday and Sunday and Texas' is scheduled August 10-12.
Some counties such as Jasper, Newton, Lawrence, Barry, and Dade will also still be collecting their county sales tax.

"It's sounds great politically, but tax experts say it's not sound policy", Davis said.
She adds taxes can be avoided on layaway items, as long as transactions take place this weekend.
