Jets players clap as Sam Darnold finally takes practice field

Everyone is fired and everything is terrible if Darnold is playing on another team before the end of his rookie deal.

"What's up, Jets fans". Per NFL rules, the rookie contract is fully guaranteed and contains a club option for a fifth year. Adams was the team's first rounder, taken No. 6 overall, in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Darnold left the locker room at 2 p.m. and headed to the practice field where his teammates welcomed him by slowing clapping as they began their stretching.

The Sam Darnold dispute with the Jets was one of the more absurd disputes we've seen in quite some time, with NY potentially alienating the No. 3 overall pick over contractual language that, given what they've invested in Darnold, seemed simply nonsensical. According to multiple outlets, the short holdout was over specific clauses and language in the contract. Holdouts have largely become a thing of the past under the NFL's new rookie wage scale.

"Anybody that comes in late and holds out as a draft pick and makes a bunch of money is going to catch ribbing from the team", Bowles said. NY agreed to change its position on the contract's default language with regard to guaranteed money, which was the biggest problem.

"The competition has been underway", Bowles said. Darnold forfeits guaranteed money if suspended by the league, but not if he is fined.

Just a few minutes after the Jets announced the signing - which includes a bonus of about $20 million - on social media, Darnold made his way out to the practice field with his teammates greeting him with a "Rudy" - like slow-clap.

Sam Darnold has joined his team. The Jets did not disclose any details on the upcoming changes. As he noted in his tweeted, incumbent started Josh McCown greeted his fellow thrower enthusiastically, signaling the unofficial beginning of the three-man race for the Jets' starting quarterback job, alongside veteran free agent Teddy Bridgewater.

The Jets open their preseason at home against the Atlanta Falcons on August 10 and kick off the regular season at the Detroit Lions on September 10 on Monday Night Football. "But he's got to put his head down, because everybody has a head start".
