Zlatko Dalic's team ended England's pursuit of glory at the tournament in Russian Federation with a 2-1 victory against the Three Lions after extra-time at Luzhniki Stadium.
It is the first time since 1998 that the nation of just over four million people have reached this stage of the competition, after they eliminated Russian Federation in a penalty shoot-out at the weekend.
"People are crying, they are happy in our country - this is something historical for us", Lovren said.
Lovren went into the game irritated that the English media had reminded him of his nightmare against Harry Kane when he was humiliatingly substituted after only half an hour in Liverpool's crushing 4-1 defeat to Tottenham at Wembley last season.
He continued: 'This is something we will never forget. People should respect us.
"After 20 years, people will remember us, not only the '98 team". We've had this weight on our shoulders all the time, and now people will never forget us.
"Now we have the chance to do something even better and hopefully we can do it".
"It was a tough first half". In the last few seasons he's always scored more than 25 goals and he's one of the best strikers in the world. In extra time we showed that we are still able with the fatigue to play our game.
"Modric is not one of the best, (he is) the best midfield player in the world, and if we win this World Cup, he deserves the Ballon d'Or".
