It is an intriguing development, since Yasir last played an ODI in October 2016; depending on conditions, Pakistan could field a twin-legspin attack, with Shadab Khan also part of the squad.

Twenty-six-year-old Asif Ali has also been included in the ODI squad "to strengthen the lower middle order". "Babar Azam was not considered for T20s because he is recovering from injury and as per medical staff, it is hoped that he would be fit for ODIs", he added.

All-rounder Mohammad Hafeez and pacer Junaid Khan have been recalled in the 16-member Pakistan squad for the five-match ODI series against Zimbabwe, beginning July 13 at the Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo.

The 26-year-old Asif Ali, who represents Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League, has got another chance in the series to improve the team's middle order.

Three others, who were part of that series - Aamir Yamin, Umar Amin and Rumman Raees - are not in the current squad.

It is understood that Amir has requested a break following the tour of Ireland and England, where Pakistan played a one-off Test against the former and two Tests against the latter. Rookie pacer Usman, also a left-armer, last appeared in an ODI against Sri Lanka at Sharjah past year. Shehzad was in the squad that played 2 T20Is in Scotland earlier this month.

Pakistan T20 squad: Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Hafeez, Shoaib Malik, Asif Ali, Hussain Talat, Sarfaraz Ahmed (Capt), Haris Sohail, Shadab Khan, Muhammad Nawaz, Faheem Ashraf, Hassan Ali, Muhammad Aamir, Usman Khan Shinwari, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Sahabzada Farhan. In place of Shahzad, Farhan is in the team.

A full-strength touring party from Pakistan will visit Zimbabwe in July for a T20I tri-series and bilateral ODI series.

Chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq said Mohammad Hafeez was picked in the T20 and ODI squads because the allrounder has cleared his bowling action.

The training camp for the Zimbabwe tour will be held at the Gaddafi Stadium from June 25 to 28 before departing for Zimbabwe.

Pakistan left-arm pace bowler is likely to miss the national team's entire tour of Zimbabwe, or at least a small portion of it.
