The latest dinosaur thriller, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, hit U.S. theaters this weekend and opened with big numbers. Sequels of this sort usually make more money, especially with how hard the film got pushed, so it not even sniffing the original's box office is a bit of a letdown. This is the fourth biggest opening weekend of 2018, behind Avengers: Infinity War, Black Panther and Incredibles 2.
Disney and Pixar's "Incredibles 2" followed up its record-breaking opening with a strong second weekend, bringing in an estimated $80.9 million. That brings the movie's global haul to $711.5 million after having opened in most markets overseas three weeks ago.
The overall $280 million weekend at the box office puts the industry 8.5 percent ahead of this time year.
