Horn will be making his first appearance in the USA and against perhaps the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world. By the third round, Crawford was punishing the Aussie with vicious power shots.

According to Compubox, Crawford landed 155 of 367 punches (42 percent), while Horn managed to connect on just 58 of 257 punches (23 percent). The WBO champion almost went down at the bell to end the eighth.

The same could not be said for the eighth round when Crawford's left hand knocked Horn off balance and Horn wasn't able to avoid touching the canvas with one of his gloves.

Back in 1926 Bert became the first man to land an aircraft on an English mountain when he powered his little biplane through a storm to land on a small patch of grass on the highest peak in the Lakes District.

All three judges had Crawford up 80-72 - meaning Horn had not won a single round in their eyes - when Byrd intervened late in the ninth round following a furious flurry of punches from the American. These things happen. I could have kept him guessing more. Past pound-for-pound kingpin Floyd Mayweather, JR. was expected to struggle to get by the likes of Genaro Hernandez, Diego Corrales, and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez just like his predecessor (sans temporary P4P kingpin Bernard Hopkins) Roy Jones, JR. was expected to be tested by James Toney and John Ruiz.

"We're going to make up a plan and see where we go, but I assure you that we're looking for the biggest fights out there".

EARLIER: JEFF Horn has suggested his scales were tampered with after initially failing to make the 66.7kg welterweight limit for tomorrow's world title fight with Terence Crawford. He stuck his tongue out and wound up with some punches as he nailed Horn with heavy shots from all angles, especially straight lefts, in what was easy work. Never was Horn (18-1-1) on the verge of winning a round.

Horn's trainer Glenn Rushton said the battle with the scales was just an annoyance rather than a drama.

He wants to be the Queenslander who took on world boxing's greatest mountain and conquered it. Moreover, Crawford was a lightweight world titleholder in 2014. After two successful defenses, he outdistanced WBC beltholder Viktor Postol here at the MGM Grand in July 2016 to unify those titles and become the lineal champion at 140.

The decision to move up to welterweight had already been made prior to that historic feat.

The fight was originally scheduled for April 14 but was postponed when Crawford suffered a deep bone bruise on his right hand while training.

Horn was one of three fighters on the card who missed the weight.

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, who has promoted fights for more than 50 years, was very impressed with Crawford and compared him to a legend.

A full year of aging, and the loss of Freddie Roach will do nothing to make him any better than he was that night.

The bout itself played out the same way. "Terence Crawford, you're a great fighter". Now, he has a new weight class in which to prove it.

"It's just continually climbing steeper mountains until you say I can climb Mount Everest, I can climb any mountain in the world".

"That's what I went to, I've heard and I took it on board. You didn't give me enough credit, so I had to show you".
