Scotland hope ODI win over England boosts test status hopes

Scotland's first win in global cricket over England came in their first match since they were cruelly denied a place at next year's World Cup after a poor umpiring decision and rain saw them miss out in their final qualifier against the West Indies in Harare in March.

"So we get an automatic look at five players we wouldn't have got a look at and we use that to build towards the World Cup in 12 months' time".

The 29-year-old former Durham batsman went to a hundred off just 70 balls, his seventh at this level and the first by any Scotland batsman against England.

Australia know they must build bridges across the cricketing world in order to fix reputations and trust.

The ICC has reduced the number of teams at the 2019 World Cup to 10 from 14, making it far tougher for associate nations to qualify.

"Dave is the best One Day and T20 batsman of the past decade so he's perfectly placed to join our coverage for the United Kingdom series", Nine's Director of Sport Tom Malone said.

From 276-7, the visitors threatened to get out of trouble courtesy of Moeen Ali (46) and Liam Plunkett (47 not out), but there was to be another twist in the tale.

"It's part and parcel of the game", he said. None of the bowlers came off well against Scotland and one of Tom Curran or Jake Ball stand a chance of coming into the XI, possibly at the expense of Willey. There could be ODI debuts for D'arcy Short and Michael Neser.

But Derbyshire have moved quickly to secure the 85-cap global batsman on the back of his seventh ODI hundred as part of a new relationship between the midlands county and Cricket Scotland. The forecast for Tuesday is warm and cloudy, but don't expect the white Kookaburra to swing.

Asked if England would use the incident in sledging, Morgan said: "No".

Eoin Morgan is confident England can learn the lessons of their shock six-run loss to Scotland in Edinburgh on Sunday in time for a one-day worldwide series against Australia. Since then, they have suffered two defeats and a no-result.

"A one-off game like this, to bring your best game is very hard to do, they played well and deserved the result", said Morgan. We need to back this up.

"We were not taking them lightly even before the England match", said Pakistan's captain Sarfraz Ahmed ahead of T20Is against Scotland.
