Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 gets several upgrades

Ford says it worked "exclusively" with Micheline to develop the car's tires that will even come with a "Shelby GT350-specific tread pattern" that the automaker claims will improve acceleration, lateral acceleration and braking.

Next, the engineers added a new rear spoiler with an optional Gurney flap for improved rear end downforce while a new grille with blocked out areas improves aerodynamics without negatively impacting the engine cooling process.

The most important updates for GT350 fans?

The Shelby GT350 is design to carve up road courses so for the 2019 model year, the engineers focused on improving the cornering capabilities of the high performance Ford pony auto.

Since there is so much adjustability through vehicle software tuning - just ask Elon Musk - every time a manufacturer makes an incremental change in hardware - tires, wing, splitter - it can also rework stuff like the ABS, traction control, MagneRide suspension and power steering, just like on the Mustang Performance Pack 2. The unit produces the same 526 horsepower (392 kilowatts) and 429 pound-feet (581 Newton-meters) of torque, and comes paired to a Tremec six-speed manual transmission.

Ford has confirmed the return of the high performance pony auto for 2019, even as it readies the introduction of a GT500 model for early next year. Power-adjustable seats with synthetic suede inserts are available at extra cost, to go with the dark gray, contrast-stitched synthetic suede door panels.

Velocity Blue and Ford Performance Blue paint colours are both now available outside, while the suede-lined interior features an eight-inch Sync 3 touch screen and dual-zone electronic automatic temperature control as now standard. Optional factory-painted over-the-top racing stripes are available in high-gloss Shadow Black, Oxford White or Kona Blue. What they can not opt for, though, is the same aesthetic or functional updates Ford made to the standard Mustang for this year.

"The new Shelby GT350 is our ultimate track Mustang".

Oddly, the revised Shelby GT350 will not share the reworked headlights, taillights, or digital gauge cluster that the lesser 2019 Mustangs received.
