The backflipping Federal Bureau of Investigation agent who accidentally shot a man in the leg at a Denver bar earlier this month was arrested Tuesday and faces charges of second-degree assault, according to Denver Sheriff Department records. The gun went off, injuring a patron, as Bishop picked it up.
The Denver Sheriff's Department inmate database shows that Bishop was booked in the Downtown Detention Center on Tuesday. In the now viral video, Bishop can be seen dancing and then doing a backflip. During the flip, his gun falls out of his trousers and when Bishop picks it up, the gun fires. As he is about to land his back flip, his gun flies out from the holster at the back of his trousers.
Last week, the Mile High Spirits team released a statement on Facebook saying they looked forward to speaking with the Federal Bureau of Investigation to learn more about why the agent was armed in the bar. The district attorney's office said in a statement investigators are still awaiting the tests to determine Bishop's blood alcohol content at the time of the incident, and additional charges may be pending. This agent also said that if there are aggravating circumstances to the accidental discharge, the discipline could be more severe, up to termination.
Bishop is not assigned to the Denver office but works out of Washington, sources told KUSA.
"The FBI will continue to fully cooperate with the Denver Police Department and the Denver District Attorney's Office as this matter proceeds through the judicial process", she said.
According to police officials, a man in the crowd was shot in the leg and taken to a hospital.
"Then I looked down at my leg and see some brown residue, ... I'm still thinking it's a firework. all of a sudden from the knee down my leg became completely red", Reddington, 24, said.
