The list of "Video Games That May Never Actually Release" has just lost one of its most prominent members.

That seems like it would be a ideal announcement to hold for its press conference, but Square Enix instead opted to reveal the release date during the Kingdom Hearts Orchestra World Tour. Yes, the company finally announced when we can expect Kingdom Hearts 3 to release, and it'll be here early next year.

Microsoft showed off a new world for Kingdom Hearts III during its Electronic Entertainment Expo event today in Los Angeles. The official announcement was made on Square Enix's Twitter. A Fragmentary Passage was specifically touted as being a bridge between previous installment Birth By Sleep and also serving as a prologue to Kingdom Hearts III.

This year is all set to be the final coming-out party for Kingdom Hearts III, which was first teased way back at E3 2013.

Nomura has noted that the game will have another playable character besides Sora.
