It sounds like Doom Eternal will also expand the game in a few more unexpected ways, but Bethesda and id are holding those new features back for the gameplay reveal in August. It's called Doom Eternal and inspired by Hell on Earth.

How long will you have to wait to rip and tear your way through a new host of demons?

Bethesda Softworks and id Software announced Doom: Eternal for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC during its E3 2018 press conference.

Doom marked a return to the franchise's action roots after 2004's Doom 3, which dumped most of the running and gunning in favor of dark hallways and jump scares. As in Hell will literally be on Earth.

Doom Eternal was revealed with a gory trailer that showed a number of monstrosities lumbering around Hell, including a crazy-looking walking tank that looks like a human brain. With that, Hayden teleports you to a mystery location, but not before ominously suggesting that you'll meet again. It even spawned a VR re-release as Doom VFR. Yeah, we knew this was coming.
