Earlier the Minister of State for Environment, Ibrahim Jibrin, said the ministry has done quite a lot in the area of pollution and waste management.

Over 64,000 tonnes of plastic food packaging and plastic bottles is disposed into household residual waste instead of being recycling, costing the country a staggering £11m each year, according to Zero Waste Scotland.

Almost one third of the plastic packaging we use globally reportedly escapes collection systems, which means that it ends up clogging our streets, blocking our drains, polluting our national environment on land and in the sea.

Nestle, too, has joined the eco-friendly bandwagon and has aimed at 100% reusable and recyclable packaging by 2025.

Cabinet Secretary for the Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform Roseanna Cunningham said: "This year alone the Scottish Government has announced plans to ban plastic-stemmed cotton buds and will shortly be banning rinse-off personal care products containing plastic microbeads as part of Scotland, and the EU's, vision to reduce single-use plastics and ensure any single-use plastics are easily recyclable by 2030". The waste management and recycling sector already employs over 500,000 people in Brazil and about the same number of workers in Bangladesh. Sreenivasan, programme head of Plastic Waste Recycling, Ramky Enviro Engineers, said, "Polypropylene (PP), high density polyethylene (HDPE) and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) are the kinds of plastic which can be recycled".

Estimates show up to 10 million tonnes of plastic garbage ends up in the oceans each year, and across the oceans there are multiple islands of trash, including one in the Pacific that rivals the size of the province of Quebec. "India will be among the first countries to pilot this new, sustainable packaging solution developed by PepsiCo". "We plan to launch this pilot in the fourth quarter of 2018". "The judges got to know our business, our ambitions and our commitment, so to win the top prize is all the more rewarding", said Sian Miles, Purchasing Director, RPC bpi recycled products.

Under the new rules, all industrial units have to give an undertaking on total waste generation in processing the plastic with details of plastic waste proposed to be acquired through sale, auction, contract or import, for use as raw material, and whether the facility is authorised by the board and follows proper pollution control measures.

Guy Ryder said in a statement on Monday that ILO joined the worldwide community to place spotlight this year on the battle against plastic pollution.

There are around 800 industrial units in the state and around 200 are plastic product manufacturing units.

"We have come so far with our recycling capabilities, so when it's not possible to reduce or reuse plastic we ask everyone to put their used plastic bottles and food packing into the relevant recycling bin where they can".
