Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko's security detail has been cut down from 26 police officers to five, following a government directive aimed at scaling down the level of VIP protection to bolster security in the country.

Commenting on the poll's results, Mr. Sonko dismissed the findings stating that the research firm had previously released findings indicating that it would be unlikely for him to be Nairobi's Governor.

In a Thursday interview with Hot 96 FM, Ms Elachi said the nominee must be Kenyan and lawyer Miguna Miguna needs to resolve his citizenship row with the Immigration Department. I would tell Miguna to first clear his issues with the Kenyan government. "He is Canadian. That procedure can take us three to four months", said Speaker Elachi on Hot 96 FM. "Simon Mbugua to be considered for approval by the County Assembly for appointment to the position of Deputy Governor", read part of the letter.

Topping Sonko's list was Citizen TV anchor Ann Kiguta; followed by lawyer Miguna Miguna; Nairobi County Education, Youth Affairs & Gender County Executive Committee Member Janet Ouko; businesswoman Agnes Kagure; former Starehe Member of Parliament Margaret Wanjiru; former Dagoretti North legislator Dennis Waweru; nominated senator Millicent Omanga; and businessman Muhoho Kenyatta.

"Miguna will not become the Deputy Governor of Nairobi".

The deputy governor's position fell vacant after the surprise resignation of Polycarp Igathe earlier in 2018 afte his fallout with Sonko.

She was speaking in Laikipia when she officiated the issuance of the Laikipia County National Government Affirmative Action Funds.
