Manchester United and bitter rivals City are poised to do battle in the transfer window this summer, in the hope of acquiring Shakhtar Donetsk's highly rated Brazilian midfielder Fred.
UOL says that Fred's staff now take the Red Devils as "the most likely destination".
The South American star has fuelled that speculation after confirming interest from England [and France] - although he stops short of naming any of the interested parties.
Shakhtar chief executive Sergei Palkin confirmed earlier this year that Fred, linked with Manchester City as well, would join one of the Manchester clubs at the end of the season. "I've been working well here but it has been five years".
'I made it clear to the club that I was very happy here but I want to make a bigger leap in my career. I want to make a bigger leap, I made it clear to the club.
"I think I have to change a little".
They add that Fred is most likely to join Manchester United now, seeing out his dream to play in the Premier League, albeit not for the Manchester club most originally expected him to join. I made it clear that it's my moment.
And according to M.E.N's Samuel Luckhurst, United also face competition for Fred, whose release clause stands at €60m (£52.89m), from PSG ahead of Thiago Motta's departure from the club. I have a contract until 2021.
Fred will be on show at the Russia World Cup after being named in the Selecao's 23-man-squad for the showpiece event.
He said: "In terms of recruiting a midfielder, yes Jose Mourinho would like to have another midfielder in January".
