Transfer window: When can Chelsea start signing players this summer?

This summer's transfer window will open nearly a month early on Thursday May 17 to adhere to new Federation Internationale de Football Association guidelines, in a change to previous regulations.

The new dates are to ensure that all transfers are completed before the start of the 2018/19 season.

In fact, deals can be agreed before May 17, however, the paperwork cannot be processed until the window has officially opened.

The Premier League season is over and it's fair to say some teams fared better than others. Nearly five weeks of worldwide football this summer is bad news only for those Premier League clubs that must now get all of their incoming transfer business done before a ball has been kicked next season.

Fixtures for the upcoming 2018-19 Premier League season will be published on June 14 at 9:00 BST - which is, coincidentally, the same day that the World Cup starts.

The Premier League transfer window will open later this week after clubs voted to introduce changes last September.

Very quickly it became known that the next Summer Transfer Window would end on Thursday 9 August at 5pm, with the matches set to start that following weekend. In Italy and Germany it will be on July 1 and in Spain it will be on July 2.

The EFL transfer window is already open.

The windows in those four leagues will close on August 31.

It opened on Monday, May 7 for domestic transfers. Clubs involved in play-offs can sign players now - but cannot play them until their season is over.

Sky Sports claim the EFL are likely to follow suit.

Man City are defending champions and will be looking to retain their title following a monumental and historic season that saw them break the record for most points accumulated in a single Premier League season (100) .

"Don't forget that continental clubs still operate to the August 31 deadline, so a lot of them see the new Premier League deadline as an easy way to make money this summer by selling players to clubs desperate enough to pay over the odds". They will still be able to loan players and register players that are free agents up until August 31, 2018.
