European publisher Deep Silver, a subsidiary of THQ Nordic, revealed the delay on its website.

At the 2015 Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles, Sony invited Shenmue creator and former Sega developer Yu Suzuki on stage to announce that he was making Shenmue III as a crowdfunding project on Kickstarter.

There are many constants in the world of videogames and one such constant is that Shenmue 3 will only ever be as real as its delays.

A crowdfunding campaign for the long-awaitedShenmue III was announced almost three years ago at E3 2015, and since then, we've seen numerous developer updates and release date shifts.

'We promise to use this time to improve the quality of Shenmue III.

Deep Silver has announced that Shenmue III, which was originally slated for release in the second half of 2018, has now, unsurprisingly, been delayed vaguely until 2019.

Deep Silver said in a statement that the change in release date was forced upon them in order to make sure that the game was fully "polished" before being unveiled. A teaser trailer released back in 2017 was criticized for the bizarrely blank facial expressions of its characters.

'To all of our backers, we are very sorry for the delay, ' he wrote.

This is a bit of a setback considering that the game has been in and out of development over the last decade.
