The Pirates jumped all over the White Sox early in their series opener Tuesday night at PNC Park, but all the news wasn't good for the home side. He was replaced by Sean Rodriguez.

There was no immediate word on the severity of Marte's injury, though both players nearly certainly will be held out of the Wednesday 12:35 p.m. finale of this two-game series with Chicago.

Pittsburgh right-hander Jameson Taillon (2-3, 4.08 ERA) is scheduled to face White Sox left-hander Hector Santiago (0-1, 5.60 ERA).

Pirates: Center fielder Starling Marte left the game at the end of the first inning with discomfort in his right side. Chicago is also 17-38 in their last 53 road games and 8-20 in Santiago's last 28 starts.

Sox: Second baseman Yoan Moncada (left hamstring tightness) was activated from the disabled list and went 1 for 4.

Pittsburgh's top hitter this year is Starling Marte, who had 48 hits, 29 runs, six homers and 19 RBI coming into this set. Pittsburgh scored four runs in the first inning and chased Chicago starter Reynaldo Lopez in the third. "I thought it was just two pitches that left the yard. Probably felt too good". His last time out, he gave up five runs in 1 2/3 innings, including a grand slam, Friday against the Cubs. "I feel like, for the most part, we were anticipating slower, earlier and it kind of just worked out for us".

"I thought we did our homework well last time", he said. Trevor Williams started for the Pirates, and did not allow a run over seven innings. It might have otherwise been a game that indicated he had gotten back on track after struggling following a one-hit shutout with seven strikeouts April 8 in a 5-0 win over Cincinnati.
