The news that Glover would get his own Star Wars spinoff, based on Lando Calrissian, who he plays in the Solo film, filled the internet with excitement. President of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy, spoke to the publication at the Cannes film festival. "However, a misunderstanding occurred between the reporter and Kennedy, and Lucasfilm stresses that this project won't be the next spinoff, only that "[Kennedy] said it's something she'd like to do one day in the future".
"Solo: A Star Wars Story" features Alden Ehrenreich as a young Han Solo and chronicles his life prior to the events featured in 1977's original "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope".
Donald Glover proves that even in a galaxy far, far away he's a superstar. "My dad imprinted me with this kind of Star Wars longing, because it does feel like the Bible to me in a lot of ways".
Since 2017, an Obi-Wan movie has been reportedly in the works at Lucas. Sources close to Lucasfilm tell IndieWire that there are no concrete plans for a Lando standalone film at this time but that the studio is eyeing numerous options for the future.
When that might happen, though, is unknown.
"We think the next Star Wars spin-off will be dedicated to Lando Calrissian".
For some reason, Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm are keeping their Sabacc cards to their chest on Kenobi, but for Lando Calrissian, they neglect in using their poker face, their poker face - muh muh muh muh. A Lando film is but the next logical step.
Without getting into spoiler territory, Solo does a solid job of introducing Lando Calrissian but does not focus on him or over-explain his mystique. If you are late to the party, you definitely need to check it out.
There's nothing that Donald Glover isn't capable of right now.
