Having had his contract terminated by UAE second division side Al-Fujairah, it was quickly reported - and then denied - that El Diego had been reinstated days later.

Buenos Aires: Argentine soccer legend Diego Maradona has said that he accepted an offer to become chairman and sporting director of Belarusian club Dynamo Brest.

The Argentina legend, 57, signed a three-year deal with the club and will take up his new role after the 2018 World Cup in Russian Federation. Fujairah clinched a place in the top flight earlier this week by coming through a play-off with Hatta.

"Yes, Diego is with us", the club tweeted. FC Dynamo Brest has been a participant of all football championships of Belarus.

Dinamo Brest are now at the eighth spot in the Belarusian Premier League, the team will take on BATE Borisov in the cup final on Saturday.

"Thanks for the trust and for thinking of me", he added.

Brest, who won the Belarusian Cup a year ago and its Super Cup in March, said Maradona will be officially introduced as chairman at Emirates Palace hotel in Abu Dhabi.

Diego Maradona will get down to work after the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russian Federation.
