Super Eagles Technical Adviser Gernot Rohr, yesterday named a 30-man provisional squad for next month's FIFA World Cup in Russian Federation, with Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) leading goals scorer Junior Lokosa and Plateau United first choice goaltender Dele Ajiboye making the list. As expected, the list was dominated by the bulk of players that prosecuted the qualifiers albeit with few inclusions.
Regulars such as John Obi Mikel, Victor Moses, William Troost-Ekong and defensive partner Leon Balogun made the cut.
It included Goalkeepers - Francis Uzoho, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Daniel Akpeyi and Dele Ajiboye.
The country's top goal scorer in the tournament remains Daniel Amokachi and Emmanuel Amunike, both with two goals at the 1994 tournament.
The absence of Ikeme on Rohr's 30-man provisional squad to Russian Federation 2018 means that the Eagles No 1 spot is now up for grabs between four goalkeepers - Francis Uzoho, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Dele Ajiboye and Daniel Akpeyi.
"If I am given the opportunity to play for the team, I am going to play like I have been playing all these while and hope to score goals to help the team".
All invited players have been told to report at the Le Meridien Hotel and Golf Resort, Uyo on Monday, 21st May.
He was part of the home-based Super Eagles team that came third at the 2014 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in South Africa.
