NY gasoline prices stable as national average inches down

The price of gasoline is still on the upswing - with the average price of regular-grade gasoline in the United States rising by seven cents per gallon over the past two weeks, with summer approaching.

The highest average prices per gallon last week were reported from California ($3.62); Hawaii ($3.59); Washington ($3.29); Alaska ($3.25); Nevada ($3.24); OR ($3.18); Utah ($3.11); Idaho ($3.07); Pennsylvania ($3.01); and CT ($2.99).

North Dakota's state average is at $2.70 with prices steadily increasing the more you go west. One year ago, the price was $2.35. "Gas prices were relatively stagnant last week, but we could see a slight boost, based on oil price gains last week and the potential for additional hikes in the coming days".

"Whenever there is turmoil in the Middle East it does tend to put pressure on the gas prices".

Meanwhile, the average gas price in the nation is at $2.80.

$3.01/g in 2017, $2.63/g in 2016, $3.21/g in 2015, $4.38/g in 2014 and $4.33/g in 2013.

In Connecticut, gas averages $2.95 a gallon in Greater Hartford, up from $2.71 a month ago and $2.48 a year ago. Making the new average $2.79 per gallon.

In the past month, oil prices have risen 10% and economists at The Wall Street Journal said due to indications by President Trump that he may withdraw from a 2015 worldwide agreement with Iran that allowed an increase in oil exports in return for sanctions to its nuclear program. Much will depend on his decision on the subject.
