Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal will miss their Champions League semi-final with Real Madrid and has been ruled out for the rest of the season after undergoing knee surgery, the Bundesliga champions said on Tuesday.
Prior to missing the second leg against Sevilla through injury, Vidal had appeared in all but one of Bayern's Champions League games this season. Bayern boss Jupp Heynckes provided an update on the fitness of Vidal on Monday, with the German tactician playing down fears of a long-term absence for the South American: "I've met Dr Müller-Wohlfahrt telephoned".
Juup Heycknes said, "He slipped and fell", "Arturo has a loose body in the knee, which hinders stretching". The loose body that had been diagnosed beforehand was removed.
The season of Bayern Munich star Arturo Vidal is over, the Bavarians have announced through their official website.
Vidal, who is reportedly a target for Chelsea in the summer transfer window, will use the close season to get back to full fitness after his national side failed to qualify for the World Cup in Russian Federation.
The Chile midfielder has scored six times in 22 top-flight appearances for the Bundesliga champions this season but last featured domestically in the 2-1 defeat at RB Leipzig a month ago.
