Allegiant Air is fighting to reassure travelers and protect its reputation after renewed questions about safety at the low-priced carrier.

Allegiant said, "CBS produced a one-sided narrative by cherry-picking interviews and ignoring publicly available facts". "They must adhere to FAA rules and regulations and it appears they continue to do that".

"They don't have the number of mechanics", Goglia told "60 Minutes" for its report.

In addition, Gust alleges that the 60 Minutes report was "instigated" by an ex-employee that is trying to extract money from Allegiant.

"Very minors things like a light not working or something that needs to be fixed before they're allowed to fly. but nothing that I've seen that even if they had taken off would have caused any major issues", said Hastert.

Zacks Investment Research upgraded shares of Allegiant Air from a "sell" rating to a "hold" rating in a report on Monday, December 4th.

Sandra Bowden, community relations director for the Greater Quad-Cities for the Better Business Bureau of Greater Iowa, Quad-Cities and Siouxland Region, watched the report with her husband.

He also said the flight to Las Vegas has always been a huge success, noting it typically flies with 80-to-90 percent capacity.

Following a seven-month investigation, the CBS program said Federal Aviation Administration reports showed that Allegiant airplanes are "nearly three and a half times more likely to have serious in-flight mechanical failures than other U.S. Airlines".

The "60 Minutes" report did not reference any flights out of IL. It has had to make several emergency landings, as well as delay flights, due to these troubles.

This unoriginal and outdated story bears no resemblance to Allegiant's operations today, and shows a fundamental misunderstanding of FAA compliance practice and history.

"In response, I included language in the Senate FAA bill a year ago that would require the agency to report to Congress annually on all commercial airline safety incidents and the steps taken to address them".

But Zachary Gaul said he had a good experience flying Allegiant.

"Sometimes you get painted with a big broad brush, you know, they say Allegiant Airlines everybody thinks Allegiant everywhere, but we've had flawless runs here", said Manns. The airline has reported fewer mechanical incidents as it phases out its aging MD-80 aircraft.

In the first quarter, Allegiant had 3,279,368 scheduled passengers, up from 2,845,480 in the first quarter of past year, according to a press release issued April 5.

"When we talk about aircraft and on-time performance, (that) is a direct result of maintenance", Newell said.

Jim Bohnsack, the chairman of Rock Island County Metropolitan Airport Authority, said he worries what a report like that will do to the airline. However, we ask that you refer to Allegiant or the FAA for any specifics.

83 people work at the Punta Gorda Airport, so a lot is riding on the success of the airline for families in Southwest Florida. We now don't have any group travel scheduled with Allegiant.
