The news comes from the pages of the Daily Mail in the United Kingdom, who say that Sheeran is set to play the new comedy - tentatively titled All You Need Is Love.

Sheeran has made a handful of forays into acting, perhaps most notably through a cameo appearance on Game of Thrones that ended up being one of the more widely derided moments in a mostly well-regarded season.

Hot off the presses comes news this morning that superstar musician Ed Sheeran is set to join the Richard Curtis scripted and Danny Boyle directed musical comedy now in development.

Lily James ("Cinderella", "Baby Driver") is attached to star, alongside Himesh Patel ("Eastenders"). They said the plot was being kept under wraps, and they didn't know if Sheeran would contribute to the score.

Ed Sheeran is rumoured to been cast in a new comedy musical directed by Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire, The Beach) and written by Richard Curtis (Notting Hill, Love Actually, Blackadder). Kate McKinnon ("SNL") is said to be in talks too, Deadline reported, with filming scheduled for this summer. Producers include Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner from Working Title, along with Matthew James Wilkinson and Bernie Bellew. Executive vice president of production Erik Baiers is overseeing the project for Universal. The film is understood to have the working title All You Need is Love. It's unclear yet whether Sheeran is negotiating an onscreen role or involvement with the movie's soundtrack, though the Mail claims he will do both.
