East Singhbhum District Youth Congress Committee took out a candle march at Sakchi on Friday to protest recent incidents of rape against minors in Unnao (Uttar Pradesh) and Kathua (Jammu and Kashmir).

Ahead of Sunday's meeting, six leaders including Mr Shah, Union ministers Piyush Goel and D V Sadananda Gowda, H N Ananth Kumar, general secretary P. Muralidhar Rao, and state unit president B.S. Yeddyurappa, held a marathon meeting in Hubballi on Thursday and discussed the second list at length.

Amethi is represented by Gandhi in the Parliament, while his mother and former Congress president Sonia Gandhi is the MP from Raebareli. Apart from the BJP and Congress, the Janata Dal Secular party, in alliance with Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party for the Karnataka polls, has already announced candidates for 126 constituencies. When he was asked by the media about his Congress connection, he said that he has a personal relationship with Ghulam Nabi Azad. Similarly, Romi Sharma is also a Youth Congress president and vocal supporter of the manch.

Claiming that they were Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers, Tiwari alleged that they wanted to instigate riots and blame the BJP for the same.

The BJP had faced flak after its leaders in the Jammu region, including two ministers - Lal Singh and Chander Prakash Ganga - in the Mehbooba Mufti government, joined the public protests against the police probe into the rape and murder case, which led to the arrest of eight persons.

The Bar Association of Jammu, in the Kathua rape case, supported the lawyers who were trying to stop the police from filing a charge sheet against the main accused in the rape case on April 9. The lady council for the victim has also allegedly received threats from many Hindu organisations.
