Ian Somerhalder is sticking with the whole vampire thing after signing on for Netflix's V-Wars. Based on the IDW comic of the same name by writer Jonathan Maberry, V-Wars follows the adventures of Dr. Luther Swann (Somerhalder) as he tries to understand the nature of the disease that has transformed his best friend Michael Fayne and so many others into vampires. Swann's role is to find a way to stop the disease from spreading, while he friend becomes the most powerful underground vampire leader.
According to an April 16 report by TVLine, Ian Somerhalder has been cast in Netflix's V-Wars, which is an adaptation of a graphic novel series. The order comes as another IDW property, the beloved Locke and Key, is awaiting word on a new home after Hulu's surprising pass on the pilot.
IDW Entertainment is the worldwide distributor for V-Wars, excluding Canada.
1-800-Missing creators William Laurin and Glenn Davis will serve as showrunners. "We are thrilled to partner with Netflix to bring the multifaceted world that Jonathan Maberry created to audiences worldwide".
Former Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder is returning to his roots. He also became a producer on the show, and directed a few episodes. The first season will be 10 episodes long. Eric Birnberg and Thomas Walden are executive producing for High Park Entertainment, while David Ozer and Ted Adams will serve in that capacity for IDW Entertainment. He now has a pod deal with TVD producers Warner Bros.
Currently Somerhalder and his wife, actress Nikki Reed have a pod deal with Warner Bros TV to produce new content for the network under their production company Rare Bird Productions.
