Greenwood Assistant Police Chief Matthew Fillenwarth says police and medics responded today to a verbal and physical fight involving about 150 people at the Gurdwara in the city just south of Indianapolis. Although ceremonial knives are used in the temple as part of the service, there are no reports of anyone suffering stab wounds following the brawl, reports WISH-TV. Police believe the fight at the temple in Greenwood broke out following a disagreement with a change in power.
Some gurdwara members told the local media that the fight was between incoming and outgoing leaders.
Police say there was daggers, sharp objects and pepper spray involved in the fight which took place following elections at the temple between the two sides transitioning power.
Witnesses at the scene told 24-Hour News 8 that people were attacked with the pepper spray, but it was unclear how many people were injured or the extent of their injuries. No weapons were recovered at the scene and no arrests were made.
