PCB announces 16-member squad for England, Ireland series

Pakistan senior bowler Wahab Riaz was dropped out of the 25-members Test Camp for the upcoming tour of Ireland and England but the cricketer still believes that he has been performing well for his side on domestic and worldwide cricket.

Azhar Ali, Imam-ul-Haq, Fakhar Zaman, Sami Aslam have been included in the squad as opening batsmen.

Chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq announced the squad members at a press conference in Pakistan Cricket Board headquarter.

"This is a great opportunity for us, particularly our batsmen, to gain experience in this conditions".

Pakistan suffered a blow when Yasir Shah was ruled out due to a stress fracture of his hip that knocked the star leg-spinner out of action for at least 10 weeks.

In the absence of Yasir, Pakistan's spin workload with fall on Shadab Khan, who has performed well in limited-overs cricket but has played only one Test match.

"Yasir's absence is a big loss for us", Inzamam said.

"If we look at his numbers (of wickets) for the last two years, he has more wickets than any other bowler for Pakistan". He was our strike bowler.

Fawad, 32, is now Pakistan's best domestic batsman with an average of 55.37 in first-class cricket and has piled up 10,742 runs in just 145 outings. "He played a big part in all the games we won".

Sarfraz Ahmed, the captain, is the only specialist wicketkeeper in the squad.

A single Test against Ireland in Dublin begins on 11 May, before matches against England at Lord's and Headingley.
