Rocklin High School facilitated the students' pro-gun control protest by instructing teachers to modify their lesson plans for the walkout and by providing students with a forum to speak about gun legislation in the school's amphitheater.
Attorneys from Life Legal Defense Foundation contacted Davis Stewart, principal of Rocklin High School (RHS), to outline the rights of Gillespie and other pro-life students.
Students from across the country participated in a Pro-life Walkout Wednesday, walking out of their schools for 17 minutes of prayer and silence honoring "the 10 children who will violently die during that time at a Planned Parenthood abortion facility". At the time, Gillespie said he wanted to organize the protest to determine "if there really is a double standard and what will come of that".
Complaints were made against Benzel by some parents and students who said her questions to her students were "anti-abortion", resulting in the teacher being placed on leave.
"If you're going to allow students to get up and walk out without penalty, then you're going to have to allow any group of students that wants to protest", Benzel told Fox & Friends. However, school officials denied pro-life students the requested accommodations, saying that the Pro-Life Walkout "associates the school with a position of non-neutrality on a matter that is extremely controversial". "The tremendous, truly grassroots interest we have seen in the walkout is further proof that the Pro-Life Generation is the majority and is strong and growing", Hawkins said. This time it was actually organized by the students but it's not getting much airtime because it's a pro-life walkout.
The website for the walkout included a list of high schools and colleges that registered with SFLA for the walkout, which included public and private schools from throughout the United States.
"We will no longer watch as our leaders in Washington continue to fund our nation's largest abortion vendor, Planned Parenthood, with more than $500 million of our taxpayer dollars", announced the website ProlifeWalkout.org. So instead of rallying a march, Cascio and her team educated students about Planned Parenthood.
Prior to the walkout, Gillespie pointed out that his high school did not provide him the same accommodations the gun control walkout received last month.
