De Lille joining another party a viable option, says analyst

De Lille's party, the Democratic Alliance, has since said it would be asking her for reasons why she attended, saying she had not informed the party beforehand, as was protocol.

Nt'sekhe says the DA did seek an explanation as to why De Lille did not inform the party prior to the EFF memorial.

During the memorial service in Brandfort in the Free State province on Wednesday, De Lille recalled the last time Madikizela-Mandela called her in December previous year.

Shivambu on Thursday claimed the DA's request was "evidently [a] witch hunt by the lily white liberals".

The party responded to the EFF's invitation by sending its Free State provincial leader Patricia Kopane to represent the DA.

Political parties regularly send invitations to the DA to attend events or rallies.

Everyone can understand that she would wish to be part of a memorial service for Mam'Winnie, because this is a huge icon that has passed on.

De Lille and the DA are at loggerheads, with the party laying bribery and corruption charges against her earlier this month.

De Lille meanwhile was unavailable to comment on the issue at the time of publication, telling News24 she was in a meeting.

He would pay his respects at the official funeral on Saturday.
