PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Wayne Simmonds just had to tap the puck over the blue line but couldn't.

It took Jakub Voracek's pep talk and Claude Giroux's acrobatics to finally give host Philadelphia a crucial win.

Patrick scored at 5:31 of the third for a 3-1 Flyers lead, once again regaining a two-goal lead.

The Bruins enter a game without several of their best players. "We all know that", Philadelphia head coach Dave Hakstol said of the stick-handling mishaps.

With just over a minute left in the overtime period, the Bruins made a mistake while entering the Flyers zone. As Voracek turned up ice he spotted a breaking Claude Giroux and fed him a flawless pass. Giroux picked up the puck as he crossed the red line and skated in on Khudobin with the game on his stick.

The Flyers' Claude Giroux of the Philadelphia Flyers follows his game-winning goal past Boston goalie Anton Khudobin.

I think we could see it like a playoff game. Philadelphia who opened an eight-point lead over idle Florida, the last team that can overtake them for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference - the Flyers have three games left and the Panthers five.

The Bruins led in shots, 12-7, after 20 minutes. Bergeron scored his 30th goal of the season when he tied the game at three.

"To keep the puck alive and we didn't quit on it that's for sure", Cassidy said of the final sequence. "Tried to force them to make plays, turn a couple of pucks over and it ended up in the net".

A quick passing play paid off for the Bruins, as Noel Acciari fired a one-timer from the slot over Mrazek to cut the Flyers lead to one.

"Obviously, you're not going to get into the playoffs playing like that", Panthers forward Vincent Trocheck said. That's two points ahead of second place Tampa Bay and both teams have now played the same amount of games, 78.

A day after Vegas' Willam Karlsson's short-handed, between-the-legs goal was declared by many to be the NHL's top goal this season, Konecny provided competition.

The Flyers started the second period up by one goal and needing to have a strong period to build on the momentum they gained in the first. He's a great leader and I just think overall he's definitely one of the stars of this league, if not in the top five of the entire league. "I reacted", Konecny said. It was Giroux's 28th goal of the season, tying a career high before setting a new mark in overtime. "He pulled one of the highlight reel goals".

NOTES: Flyers G Alex Lyon was recalled on an emergency basis to back up Mrazek as Michal Neuvirth (lower body) was unavailable. Bruins D Charlie McAvoy (knee) skated before the game and could return Tuesday. Adam McQuaid fought Panthers winger Michael Haley early in the second, and later in the period Brad Marchand was assessed a four minute double minor roughing penalty for an incident with Panthers center Vincent Trocheck. Boston had two power play chances in the period and outshot the Flyers, 17-8, in the period.
