Actor-turned-politician Rajinikanth today condemned the behading of a Periyar statue in in Alangudi town of the Pudukkottai district in Tamil Nadu today. Senior Revenue officials also rushed to the spot and temporarily fixed the head.
The district authorities swung into action on hearing about the incident, carried out fix works and restored the statue to its original state by 8 am, they said.
News agency ANI reported that the Periyar statue was being reinstated in Pudukkottai.
The statue was installed near the Panchayat office in 2013.
The police are conducting an investigation into the incident.
