During his audition, Glaze revealed that he hadn't yet had his first kiss because "I can't kiss a girl without being in a relationship", but Idol judge Katy Perry chose to change that when she invited him closer to plant a surprise smooch on him.
He said: "I was a tad bit uncomfortable".
The controversial lip lock went down during an audition interview in which the electronics store cashier admitted to never having kissed a girl. "I know a lot of guys would be like, 'Heck yeah!' But for me, I was raised in a conservative family and I was uncomfortable immediately".
Katy Perry is in hot water for forcing a kiss on an American Idol contestant-and not just any kiss, but his first ever. She stuck out her cheek for him to give her a kiss on the cheek, and as he moved toward her cheek, the songstress turned her face toward him and kissed him on the lips.
Glaze then kicked off his audition with "Levels" by Nick Jonas, though it seemed his nerves got the best of him and the judges deemed him unfit for Hollywood.
Benjamin Glaze, the "American Idol" contestant who kissed Katy Perry, is reflecting on the moment and it isn't exactly positive! She and Richie urged him to practice more and "kiss a couple more girls" before auditioning again. "No, I've never been in a relationship".
In the segments that featured Mr. Glaze, he was shown waiting around in anticipation for his audition with other hopefuls.
After the episode, which was filmed last October, aired, Benjamin spoke to The New York Times about the kiss.
He said his friends told him not to worry about Perry's kiss.
Months later - and in the wake of movements like #MeToo - Glaze says he doesn't feel he was sexually harassed by Perry, and has rationalized the kiss by determining it didn't actually count.
But it didn't satisfy the 33-year-old popstar who complained that Benjamin "didn't make the smooch sound". "It was lip contact versus a romantic situation with someone you care about".
Representatives for ABC and Katy Perry did not respond to requests for comment.
