To win a medal in the Super Combined, you must set a combined fastest time across run 1 (Super-G) and run 2 (Slalom). Schultz himself has won snowboarding gold already, and his teammates have medaled five times themselves.

The 2018 PyeongChang Winter Paralympic Games kicked off last Friday under the theme of passion and coexistence, but the prospect of following up the success of the Winter Olympics remains doubtful, as many events featuring South Korean athletes have already been pushed to the side by broadcasters.

Declan Farmer of Tampa helped pace Team USA to the semifinals in sled hockey at the Paralympics Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, with a tournament-high 13 points.

Schultz didn't have an easy path to Paralympic gold.

"I think we're very strong-minded people and I think we can push past people's expectations", he said.

It is New Zealand's 30th winter Paralympic medal and New Zealand's 220th Paralympic medal overall, summer and winter. "Both Russ and Graham did such a good job today that I was hurting by the end, so it was thanks to them that we got this done". Swiss alpine skier Theo Gmur won the gold medal, while Canada's Alexis Guimond finished third.

This is Wanaka-based Hall's second Paralympics medal.

"This is something I really wanted", Ramsay said. "I'll take any colour (medal)".

The event was won by neutral paralympic athlete Aleksei Bugaev (20), of Russian Federation, from Arthur Bauchet (17), of France.

In what was his Paralympic debut, Patmore ran 22.36 - a time which put him just over three-tenths of a second behind even the gold medallist, Brazilian Yohansson Nascimento.

"When they play stupid little games, I blocked it out and did my own thing".
