Case Keenum To Sign With Denver Broncos

The Denver Broncos will sign former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Case Keenum.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Vikings quarterback Case Keenum intends to sign with Denver when National Football League free agency opens on Wednesday.

He played with Houston in 2014, St. Louis in 2015, Los Angeles in 2016, Minnesota in 2017 and will now head to Denver in 2018. Of the teams thought to be shopping for a starting quarterback in free agency, all but one appeared to have a deal in place for Wednesday. He threw 22 touchdowns and only seven interceptions in 2017 after taking over for an injured Sam Bradford.

With the Broncos, Vikings, Cardinals and Jets apparently no longer looking for a No. 1 quarterback, the Buffalo Bills appeared to be the only team in the market for a starter.

Siemian again handily beat out Lynch last summer, but the Broncos would cycle through their trio of homegrown QBs during a 5-11 season that almost cost rookie head coach Vance Joseph his job.

"Will only confirm they'll get the first visit", McCartney told the Pioneer Press. John Elway, the Broncos' front office football czar, has settled on Keenum as his latest attempt to fix the quarterback situation.

"I still think we're not too far away", Elway said at the combine. That doesn't all go on the players. "I feel like we can get right back in the thick of the things rather quickly".

There are sure to be more dominoes to fall in the quarterback free-agent frenzy that will officially begin on Wednesday. Now they will count on Keenum to get them back into the playoffs and, they hope, be in the mix to advance deep into the postseason. That leaves open the possibility that he would be a placeholder at the position until a young quarterback taken in the draft is ready to play.
