After making headlines for being let go from Grey's Anatomy, Sarah Drew has landed a new role in a CBS pilot, and has the full support of her Grey Sloan Memorial coworkers.

Sarah Drew will co-star in the "Cagney & Lacey" reboot.

The show is a reboot of the 80s police series, and will follow the two female police detectives and friends who keep the streets of Los Angeles safe.

Drew's departure from "Grey's", along with longtime castmate Jessica Capshaw, came to light last week, when it was reported that producers did not renew their contracts due to the show's "creative direction". The original show starred Tyne Daly as Mary Beth Lacey and Sharon Gless as Chris Cagney.

Drew and Hurd will play Christine Cagney and Mary Beth Lacey in the pilot, according to Deadline. "Athletic, polished, former high-school track and field champion". I hear the Grey's team was very gracious in accommodating Drew's filming schedule so she could do Cagney & Lacey, something she wouldn't have been able to pursue because the ABC medical drama is still in production. As described in the book Defining Women: Television and the Case of Cagney and Lacey, the campaign focused on the uniqueness of the two main characters.

Bridget Carpenter will write and executive produce the "Cagney & Lacey" pilot, with CBS Television Studios producing along with MGM Television.

Naturally, we still have a bit of time with Drew's April Kepner before the 14th season of Grey's wraps. She is repped by APA and TMT Entertainment Group.
