URI falls to Davidson in A-10 title game

In that one, Davidson's leading scorer was Peyton Aldridge with 24 points and seven rebounds.

With Rhode Island considered a lock to make the NCAA Tournament and Davidson not even listed as one of ESPN analyst Joe Lunardi's "next four out" teams, Davidson was in a position to steal a bid from a would-be bubble team.

Ruthie Polinsky is in Washington D.C. and will have live coverage starting at 6:30 p.m. on Eyewitness News.

CBS and Turner Sports executives say the 68 teams selected will be announced in the first 10 minutes of the show, and the entire bracket will be revealed in 45 minutes. URI is looking to become the first team in the conference since Saint Louis in 2012-13 to sweep both the regular-season and tournament titles.

Davis now owns career averages of 23.2 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.4 blocks and 1.3 steals per game. He has been particularly impressive since the All-Star break, putting together three 40-point performances, including a 53-point, 18-rebound outburst in the Pelicans' victory over the Phoenix Suns on February 26.

Rhode Island senior guard Stanford Robinson, who is from Landover, Maryland and played at Paul VI High in Fairfax, said the Rams are also pumped for another title. Considering Rhode Island limped into the tournament with three losses in five games, I'm leaning toward Davidson to cover here. Aldridge leads in rebounds with 7.8 while Gudmundsson tops in assists with 5.2. Davidson rallied down the stretch to down the Rams, 63-61, in the regular-season finale on March 2. The Rams were just 3-for-29 from 3-point range in the first matchup, turning the ball over 14 times against just 12 assists.

"We took that kind of personal", URI guard Russell said. "Being able to hit open shots, that's what we did".

On URI's final possession, Jeff Dowtin's straight-away three was an airball with 0.9 seconds left to seal the win for Davidson.

Rhode Island had more second-chance points with 21, compared to Saint Joseph's' 14. Cyril Langevine made a free throw with 2:49 left for URI's last points.

Jared Terrell missed a tough leaner at the other end before Langevine blocked a Grady shot to keep it a one-point game.
