Arsenal and Manchester United were dealt a big blow in their pursuit of Marco Reus on Friday after the Borussia Dortmund attacker committed his long-term future to the German outfit.

But while his worldwide future remains up in the air, his club situation has been clarified after agreeing fresh terms with Dortmund which will keep him at the club until 2023.

He has 29 caps for his country but missed the 2014 World Cup, which Germany won, because of injury.

"I have worn the Borussia shirt since 2012".

The 28-year-old joined BVB from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2012 in a move worth around £15million, but has been blighted by injuries throughout his six-season spell at Signal Iduna Park. I am happy and proud I can announce I will keep wearing it. Since childhood I have dreamed of running aground in black and yellow and playing for this club.

He captained the side in his comeback against Hamburg and has since scored in three consecutive games.

"The fact that I can renew my commitment to the association today is also a thank you to our fantastic fans, who have always stayed close to me".

'We are delighted that he chose to extend his contract early and for a long term despite past offers from the world's best clubs, ' said Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke.
