The launch was an online live stream and at the end of the stream, Xioami teased a smartphone.
From the teaser messages on social media and the phone being described as a "Compact Powerhouse" by Xiaomi, one is expecting that the phone to be released on March 14 will be the Redmi 5 and it may sport a powerful battery. On the software front, the Redmi 5 runs Android 7.1 Nougat out-of-the-box with MIUI 9 layered atop. Xiaomi Redmi 5 Price in India and Specifications are already out. The Redmi 5 India launch invitation have not been sent to the media yet. Out of these two, the Redmi Note 5 is the Indian variant of Redmi 5 Plus which was launched in China past year.
Following the launch Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro last month, Xiaomi is now set to bring another new budget smartphone to India on March 14. It is expected that the smartphone will also be listed or be up for pre-booking around the same time.
In China, The Redmi 5 smartphone is available in three variants.
Talking about the specifications of the Redmi 5, the phone bears an HD+ display of 5.7-inches. The 2GB RAM of the Redmi 5 is priced at CNY 799 (approximately Rs 8,100), the 3GB RAM variant is priced at CNY 899 (approximately Rs 9,100) while the 4GB RAM variant is priced at CNY 1,299 (approximately Rs 13,200). It is worth mentioning that all Xiaomi products are alternatively also available on mi.com and offline Mi Home stores. The resolution of the display is 720×1440 pixels. The bezels are still available but it will be thinner than traditional 16:9 aspect ratio smartphones.
The Redmi 5 is powered by a 1.8GHz octa-core Snapdragon 450 SoC based on a 14nm FinFET technology and coupled with Adreno 506 GPU. There's an option to expand the storage via microSD card. Below the camera, at the back, there is a fingerprint sensor. the battery of the phone is 3300mAh.
The smartphone is expected to feature a 12MP camera for rear and 5MP camera for selfies with Beautify 3.0 to enhance selfies.
