Dunkirk Director Predicts Black Panther Will Get An Oscar Nomination

This bit of news comes as Black Panther has remarkably entered the Top 10 highest grossing films of all time, Box Office Mojo reports on Friday, Mar. 9 (And this total is for movies overall, not just Marvel or comic book-featured films).

"Nothing specific to reveal, other than to say we absolutely will do that", Feige told Entertainment Weekly when asked what he could disclose about plans for a Black Panther sequel.

"Black Panther" is too good of a superhero movie, so it's not impossible if it becomes the first to get a Best Picture nomination at next year's Academy Awards.

Still, despite the massive success, Marvel Studios had yet to announce that a sequel was on the way.

"If you're into the Beatles, you can hang with our Black Panther", adds Charlize Theron, who plays an unscrupulous pharmaceutical executive.

Chadwick Boseman was first introduced as Black Panther in Captain America: Civil War before starring in his own movie, and he's the only superhero to have been introduced in one of Marvel's superhero assemblies before getting their own movie. And Mr. Feige sure makes it sound like Black Panther 2 is a sure thing.

No word yet on a potential release date, Feige said.

Since this same interview featured Kevin Feige talking about how they were already brainstorming about the future of Black Panther while they were making the first movie, we know that finishing these 22 movies is not all they're thinking about. Okoye, I think I'd watch three action films just Okoye. We'll wait and see, but hopefully there's confirmation of Black Panther 2, and Coogler's return, sooner rather than later. We did also get a rare non-technical nomination this year as Logan contested Best Adapted Screenplay, ultimately losing out to Call Me By Your Name.
