Authorities responding to shooting at NSA headquarters; at least 1 injured

On the morning of February 14, emergency crews responded to the NSA campus at Fort Meade in Anne Arundel County for reports of a shooting.

A statement from the NSA Public Affairs Office says: "At approximately 7 a.m. this morning, there was a security incident at one of the National Security Agency security checkpoints".

The NSA said the situation was under control, advising motorists that a highway leading to the complex was closed in both direction "due to a police investigation".

Fort Meade garrison spokeswoman Cheryl Phillips confirmed by phone to The Associated Press that one person was injured in the shooting outside the base and was taken to a hospital.

An NSA spokesman told local media the area outside America's electronic espionage agency was now secure after a "security incident".

The White House announced that President Donald Trump has been briefed on the situation.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone that has been affected", a White House statement said.

The FBI said it was sending people to the scene. The investigation into the attack is now underway. In March 2015, two unauthorized people tried to enter with a stolen SUV. Authorities later said they had stolen a auto from a man who picked them up for a party at a motel.
