The State Department, on Wednesday, issued a new travel advisory for several countries including India, and placed countries from Level 1 to 4.

Other countries in the same category include Austria, Canada, Switzerland, Scandinavian countries, all EU Eastern European countries, nearly all former Soviet republics apart from Russia, Ukraine and Azerbaijan.

The new advisory issued today by the US Government cautions American tourists from traveling to India asking its citizens to "exercise increased caution" due to "crime and terrorism" prevailing in India.

The advisory further warned travelers from visiting east-central India, primarily rural areas, due to terrorist and armed groups present there.

"We reduced staffing in Havana, and every time we do that we release a travel warning, which is reflected in our current Level 3 for Cuba", she said.

"The Indian authorities report rape is one of the fastest growing crimes in India". There is some risk in any worldwide travel. "Do not travel to Balochistan province, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) province, and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) due to terrorism", states the website.

Level 3 translates bluntly as "reconsider travel", with the recommendation to avoid going to countries with serious risks.

"If you are enrolled in our Smart Traveler Enrollment program, you will continue to get alerts based on events such as these, as well as updates to our travel advisory", Bernier-Toth said.

Placing Pakistan in Level 3 (reconsider travel) category, the State Department has advised U.S. citizens to not travel to Balochistan province, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province, and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) due to terrorism. At this level, the USA government may have "very limited ability to provide assistance" to travelers.

Singapore has been classified as a Level One country under the new USA travel warning system. The new classifications are created to simplify travel advisory information so people can easily decide if a particular destination is safe enough to visit.

T - Terrorism: Terrorist attacks have occurred and/or specific threats against civilians, groups, or other targets may exist.

The arch-nemesis of world's superpower, North Korea is also in Level Four, with the additional restriction that U.S. law prohibits American travellers from using their passports there, effectively banning visits to the Kim led-state.
